Exploration Licences and Assessment Leases
An application for the renewal of an exploration licence or an assessment lease must be lodged with the Secretary within the period of 2 months before the licence or lease ceases to have effect.
Exploration Licences and Assessment Leases take effect on the date on which it is granted and ceases to have effect on the expiration of:
- 2 years after the date on which it took effect, in the case of an exploration (mineral owner) licence or assessment (mineral owner) lease, or
- such period (not exceeding 6 years) as the decision-maker determines, in the case of any other exploration licence or assessment lease.
Mining Leases
An application for the renewal of a mining lease for:
- for 1 year of less must be lodged with the Secretary within the period of 2 months before the lease ceases to have effect
- for more than 1 year must be lodged with the Secretary not earlier than 5 years and not later than 1 year before the lease ceases to have
effecteffect.
