Tengraph

Tengraph is the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) tenement mapping system and for the new user is not intuitive, but the DMP’s website has a number of information guides to assist the new user. user See http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/Tengraph_online.aspx ,; also on the same page they have handy training videos that guide you through some of the basic functions.

DMP also have a useful user manual for Tengraph on their website and make sure you look at the “Frequently asked Questions” as it has instructive tips for using the programme, refer to: http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/Utilities/Frequently-Asked-Questions-3853.aspxto . For more in depth assistance refer to Tengraph Help http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/tgol_help/64.aspx .

The key point when using Tengraph and to avoid most problems is use Internet Explorer browser and Windows, as Tengraph is very intermittent with other browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Though Tengraph will function with Google Chrome, Tengraph disconnects when zooming in and out on a map. Also using Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome as your default browsers will cause problems. Also to run Tengraph you need Citrix 4.3 and not Citrix 4.4, which the DMP’s website points to.

A “GoldGold Prospecting”Prospecting website http://www.gold-prospecting-wa.com/tengraph.html has the a couple of useful ebooks for assisting the new user of Tengraph, but having been written in 2010, is now a bit dated as the DMP have added a couple of new features that are very extremely useful; eg exporting tenements to Google Earth, links into WAMEX (an reporting website), accessing Mineral Titles Online from Tengraph and displaying Aboriginal Heritage Surveys. For the list of recent enhancements refer to: http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/Documents/Minerals/Recent_TENGRAPH_Online_enhancements.pdf.to. One recent enhancements, enhancements the ability to export tenements to Google Earth is very useful, but one of the limitations of Tengraph is the inability to export any other GIS layers to Google Earth, including Landgate’s proprietary data. One must approach Landgate to obtain such data and at a considerable expense.

However, the days of Tengraph on the Citrix are limited, as within the near future Tengraph will be replaced by a web based version, based on the same platform as GeoVIEW (see http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/GeoView-WA-Interactive-1467.aspx ) again Tengraph like GeoVIEW will only run in limited number of internet browsers, being those that support Micosoft Silverlight plugin, which are Internet Explorer 8+, Firefox 3.5+ and Safari 3+. It will not run in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.

Landtrack Systems has a free mapping system that contains all up to date Tengraph tenements and other tenements from around Australia that can be used on your mobile phone.phone: http://www.landtracker.com.au/service/ . Just apply to Landtrack Systems for a password if you can’t log onto the website support@landtrack.com.au .support@landtrack.com.au.

For loading data into Mapinfo and ArcMap, tenements and other mapping information can be downloaded from: http://geodownloads.dmp.wa.gov.au/datacentre/datacentreDb.asp. The DMP has recently developed WA Geology a geology mapping app for mobile devices see: http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/Geology-mapping-app-for-mobile-1567.aspx that has geology, tenements and topographic maps among other things, but the screens lacks a certain amount of flexibility.
