- New Designated Tenement Contact scheme introduced - Tuesday, 31 May 2016
- Reporting online The Online Reporting Submission system for mineral exploration reports is now available. The system can be accessed from the WAMEX web page on the DMP web site. WAMEX Online which will become compulsory in July 2016.
Link to changes to the Mining Regulations 1981 occurred in November 2012 and increases to annual rent and fees.
- Changes to the Mining Act 1978 December 2012 - Compulsory Partial Surrenders
- Annual Environmental Reports (AER's) - From July 1st, 2013 online lodgement will be mandatory for all tenement holders who are required to submit an AER. Hard copies won't be accepted after this date.
- The Mining Rehabilitation Fund (MRF) legislation was passed in Parliament on 26 September, 2012. For further information click on the following link to the DMP website MRF page

- State Government announced the introduction of a new mining amendment Bill that will facilitate environmental data release and finalise the Mining Rehabilitation Fund's regulatory framework. Link to news article DMP website October 2013
- DMP has extended the validity period for Programmes of Work (POWs) from 2 to 4 years. Only applies to new applications, all previous applications, approved prior to the change to the approval letters, are not subject to the 4 year period. Link to Environment eNewsletter
- 5 Feb, 2014 Public comment open for oil and gas regulations until 30 May. The new regulations will introduce requirements for petroleum companies to have baseline water monitoring for their groundwater management strategies for field development.
- Mining Rehabilitation Fund (MRF) is complusory from 1 July, 2014. All Tenement Holders must register and provide disturbance data before 30 June, 2014. Penalties for non-compliance will apply. Link to news archive article.
- Mining tenement rents and fees under the Mining Act 1978 will increase from 1 July 2014 by 2.6 per cent.

- A new online ‘widget’ has been released in SARIG 2020 giving explorers and miners the ability to track the
progress of their mineral exploration licence application. Reported in the Mesa Journal Volume 67 December

- Recent amendments to the Mining Act 1971 have altered the way that expired, surrendered or cancelled mineral exploration licence (EL) areas may be released to industry. In July 2012 DMITRE implemented the exploration release area (ERA) process to apply to areas identified for release pursuant to these amendments.
- August 2013 - Minister for Mineral Resources will be considering Exploration Licence applications over the some areas previously held by DMITRE.
